APPRENTICESHIP FAQs

What days/times are available for the 12-week classroom portion of the Apprenticeship?
Apprentices can choose to be in a group that meets on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday evenings (5:30pm-8pm) in our Manhattan or Brooklyn office. We cannot guarantee apprentices will be placed in their first choice, but we will try our best to accommodate.

Where are the 12 weekly classroom sessions held?
Apprenticeship classes are held at our Manhattan and Brooklyn office. Both are easily accessible by subway:
Manhattan office, 111 John Street, Suite 600, New York, NY 10038
Brooklyn office, 210 Joralemon Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201

What if I need to miss 1 of my 12 weekly classroom sessions?
We strongly encourage apprentices to attend all 12 sessions, but we allow 1 absence during the entire program. Because of the small group structure, we do not permit apprentices to make up missed sessions.

Can I enroll in the Apprenticeship Program if I haven’t taken the New York Peace Institute Basic Mediation Training?
It’s possible but there is a strong preference for applicants who have taken our Basic Mediation Training.

The information below will help you determine whether you are eligible to apply directly for the Apprenticeship Program and how to go about doing this:

If you completed a 30-hour Basic Mediation Training with a New York State-certified trainer you can apply directly to our Apprenticeship Program. Please consult the ADRCIP-Certified Trainers List to see whether you completed training with a NY State-certified trainer.

If you did NOT complete your 30-hour Basic Mediation Training with a New York State-certified trainer, New York Peace Institute cannot accept your application.

Are scholarships available? How do I apply?
We have a limited number of scholarships available, and the application process is highly competitive. Please review our Diversity Scholarship Application to learn more about eligibility criteria.
